Transform Your Practice with a Research-Based Roadmap
In an era where divorce rates approach 67%, clinicians need proven, practical interventions. Based on 40 years of longitudinal research with over 3,000 couples, this training provides a practical, science-based model for treating couples. The assessment tools and targeted interventions can support you in effectively guiding clients out of unproductive patterns and toward sustainable relationship wellness.
Who is This Course For?
This training is designed for anyone dedicated to helping couples and families navigate the complexities of intimacy. This includes licensed therapists, life coaches, clergy, addiction counselors, and graduate students. Whether you are looking to build a foundation in couples work or refine your existing skills, these methods are designed to be applied immediately in your daily practice.
What You Will Learn?
In this intensive two-day workshop based on the Sound Relationship House Theory, you will gain the skills to:
- Assess the Health of a Relationship: Use the Oral History Interview and research-validated questionnaires to identify a couple’s unique strengths and vulnerabilities.
- Neutralize the “Four Horsemen”: Support clients in learning how to replace Criticism, Defensiveness, Contempt, and Stonewalling with their research-based antidotes.
- Bridge the Conflict Chasm: Empower couples to move from gridlock to dialogue by helping them to uncover their "Dreams Within Conflict" and underlying existential values.
- Heal Emotional Wounds: Master the "Aftermath of a Fight" intervention to assist couples in processing regrettable incidents and in minimizing future triggers.
- Build the "Emotional Bank Account": Utilise “Love Maps” and "Turning Towards" exercises to deepen friendship, intimacy, and connection.
Comprehensive Clinical Tools
Participants will receive a 300+ page clinical manual containing the complete Gottman Method toolkit. This includes:
- Assessment Protocols: Learn to conduct a three-session assessment process that builds a solid therapeutic alliance while gathering essential data.
- The Gottman Relationship Checkup: Discover how to use automated, digital scoring to streamline your practice and create data-driven treatment plans.
- Step-by-Step Blueprints: Gain access to the "Gottman-Rapoport" and "Art of Compromise" interventions, among others, to transform destructive interactions into constructive discussions.
The Three Domains of Intervention
Your training will focus on the three pillars of a lasting relationship:
- The Friendship System: The foundation for intimacy and positive affect, ensuring couples cultivate feeling deeply known and connected.
- The Conflict System: The basis for managing both solvable situational problems and the 69% of relationship issues that are perpetual.
- The Shared Meaning System: The existential part of the relationship, where couples discover shared purposes, rituals, and life missions.
