Statement of Sustainability & Responsibility

Lovejoy Counseling Services is...

Locally owned and operated
A genuine family business
Environmentally friendly
Dedicated to social responsibility
Committed to our professional codes of ethics

In support of the Earth

Lovejoy Counseling Services is committed to operating in an environmentally sustainable manner. We honor the essential interdependence between humanity and the myriad other life on the planet, and try to incorporate that awareness into every aspect of our business. For example, we ascribe to the old-fashioned idea of “live where you work, work where you live.” Of course, Ashland is a small town where it is easy to live within several miles of one’s office. When we do drive, the average fuel economy of our “company fleet” (i.e., our personal cars at the present time) is 25 mpg. We print all of our chart notes, handouts, etc. on 100% recycled paper. With few production-related resource demands, we leave a small footprint on the land, and strive toward carbon neutrality.

In support of community

We believe that social sustainability is at least as import a principle as environmental sustainability. We are committed to serving people of all socio-economic brackets. Our fees are standard, but we may be able to offer counseling at a reduced cost in cases of demonstrated financial need. Please inquire about the availability of this service if you are interested. It is also worth considering that self-growth, though it is an individualistic goal, usually entails a deepening of connections with and commitment to family and community. One of the surest signs that therapy has been effective is that relationships have become stronger and more satisfying. Counseling helps create community by fostering the creativity, empathy, and resourcefulness required of good community members.

At Lovejoy Counseling Services, our commitment to social responsibility also involves an active, ongoing approach to social justice issues. We support the Black Lives Matter and #Me Too Movements as well as the movement to make mental health care accessible to everyone.

In support of diversity

We adhere to the ethics codes of the American Counseling Association and the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. Accordingly, our commitment to honoring diversity is one of the cornerstones of our practice. Our training includes an emphasis on cultural competence. And we are experienced in working with people from a variety of ethnicities, races, religions, and sexual/gender orientations. We look forward to discussing with you how we can tailor our services to meet your unique needs.

In support of accessibility

With this website, we aspire to meet the web content accessibility guidelines set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium. The Lovejoy Counseling Services office has been designed to be more accessible to those who use a wheelchair. The office has a wheelchair ramp and doorways that are large enough to accommodate a wheelchair. The bathroom has bars to assist with transfer. Please let Lark and/or her assistant know if you have additional accessibility needs.

In support of our clients

We adhere to the systems perspective, which is based on the simple but sometimes overlooked truth that no person exists in a vacuum. Rather, we carry out our lives within the context of a community and an even larger society that have tremendous impacts on us. In this light, comprehensive treatment clearly cannot stop at the door leading out of the counseling office. Part of our roles as counselors, therefore, is to advocate for our clients whenever possible.
